Six SEZ Proposals Get Government Nod

The Board of Approval of the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) has granted six formal and two in-principle approvals. The board, which met on Tuesday, considered 10 proposals for setting up of SEZs. Three proposals for grant of co-developers status were also approved.

Among the formal approvals included IT SEZ promoted by Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd; a gems and jewellery SEZ; an IT/ITES SEZ by Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society Ltd at Kozhikode in Kerala; a hardware SEZ promoted by Empire Industries Ltd in Maharashtra; a solar PV SEZ by Lanco Solar Pvt Ltd at Cuttack.

The in-principle approvals were for a free-trade warehousing zone at Sindhudurg, Maharashtra; and a copper SEZ promoted by Sterlite Industries at Tuticorin.

Addressing the Board of Approval members, the chairman, Rahul Khullar, said 570 formal approvals have been granted for setting up of SEZs out of which 346 have been notified.

Khullar said over Rs 1,30,341 crore has been invested in SEZs during this short span of time and direct employment for 4,18,129 has been generated. During the first half of financial year, export of Rs 89,750.75 crore has been made from SEZs.

Among the three proposals granted co developers status are Indiabulls Industrial Infrastructure Ltd Multi-product SEZ, Nashik; Gopalan Enterprises IT/ITES SEZ, Bangalore; and Electronics Technology Parks IT/ITES SEZ, Thiruvananthapuram.
